From Burnout to Full-stack
How this full-time nurse became a full-stack developer in just 4 months
As a father of five, Matthias knows about working under pressure. Especially after working 14-hour days as a full-time nurse in a busy German hospital.
“My health finally took strain forcing me to reconsider my career choices,” explains the Masterschool graduate and now full-stack developer. “I got exceptionally sick in August 2021 from working so hard without any days off. It was impossible to find a balance”.
But balance is what he found — after a complete career pivot and plunge into web development.
“I investigated and searched for the best online program to meet my needs,” explains Matthias. “Considering the absolute need for a career change and taking my busy family life into account, I signed up for Masterschool.”
While studying, Matthias found that he was able to quickly regain his confidence and recover from the burnout that plagued him in his previous career.
“Masterschool’s community and network gave me a solid start,” he says. “Being flexible and accommodating in their teachings, Masterschool meets a variety of students’ requirements and needs. The Masterschool Team is readily available and always puts their students first, sharing knowledge and imparting skills.”
In just four months and before officially completing his program, Matthias was offered a full-time position at PaiboSoft: a career move that completely changed how he lives his life with his wife and kids.
“I now work 100% remotely and am able to plan my own time and schedule — except for fixed weekly meetings on Mondays at 9 a.m.,” Matthias adds. “I was hired initially to mainly focus on the front-end development, but now I focus on dev-ops and full-stack.”
As for his original passion — nursing — Matthias still does it in his free time, which now, thanks to Masterschool, he actually has.
“From a hard-working nurse to a highly qualified full-stack developer, I now have time to spend with my young family as they grow up, while doing what I love. I get to spend quality time with my kids, and it’s really changed a lot in my life. They now actually get to see me more than once in a while.”
His advice for those looking to take their own leap of faith?
“Don’t be afraid to step boldly out of your comfort zone. Anything is possible.”
